The verdict
Speechify was built for an unusual primary use case in this category: reading accessibility. Convert articles, documents, and PDFs into spoken audio for users with dyslexia, low vision, or who simply prefer to listen than read. The Chrome extension that reads any webpage is the killer feature for accessibility โ it works on content other tools require manual paste-and-process for. The honest tradeoff: it's optimized for consuming text via audio, not producing audio for others. The recent expansion into voice cloning and AI dubbing competes against ElevenLabs' core territory and underperforms there. For users who want a tool to read content TO them (long articles, research papers, commute listening), Speechify is best-in-class. For users producing TTS audio FOR others (podcasts, voiceovers, audiobook narration), ElevenLabs or Murf earn the slots. The subscription is expensive for what's essentially a one-direction accessibility tool.
