v0 is Vercel's bet that AI UI generation specifically — components, layouts, marketing pages — is a separable workflow from full-app coding. The shadcn/ui output is the differentiator: components ship with production-ready React code, not screenshots or design files you need to recreate. For React developers, especially Next.js shops, v0 collapses the design-to-component handoff into a single chat session. The honest tradeoffs: it's narrowly UI-focused (limited backend or business logic work), the Pro tier is needed for serious use, and output occasionally needs cleanup for non-Vercel hosting. For React-first teams building marketing sites, dashboard scaffolding, or shadcn component libraries, v0 fits cleanly. For full-app generation, Bolt or Lovable handle more of the stack. The fork-and-remix feature for others' UIs is the under-discussed value-add.
